BIOSKETCH
Jaclyn Mann is an associate professor and faculty member at the HIV Pathogenesis Programme in the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences. She completed her PhD in Virology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2012. Her research interests include inter-subtype comparisons of HIV protein function to help understand differences in the prevalence and expansion of HIV subtypes, the effect of immune-driven mutations on viral replication capacity, characteristics of successfully transmitted HIV variants, and characteristics of HIV reservoir variants. She received a FLAIR fellowship from the Royal Society and African Academy of Sciences, to explore the characteristics of HIV reservoirs, which present a barrier to curing HIV. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and supervised 19 postgraduate students.
